candle care instructions

  • Always trim your wick to 1/4 inch prior to EVERY burn. Yes, every single burn.

  • Burn your candle for one hour per inch of diameter- 3 inch wide candle = 3 hour burn.

  • Keep candles away from drafts- fans, open windows, a/c vents, etc.

  • If needed, safely re-center wick using a wick dipper or metal utensil once candle is extinguished.

  • Keep away from curtains, loose papers, children, pets, etc.

  • Always follow the instructions on the warning label located on the bottom of every candle.

trimming your wicks

PLEASE- trim your wick, EVERY single time you go to light that beautiful candle of yours! Trimming your wick prior to each burn is essential to providing a safe and clean burn. If your wick is too long or contains excess carbon buildup (mushroom top, as we call it), the flame will burn too hot. This can cause your candle to burn through much quicker than intended.

If the temperature of the wax burns hotter than intended, you may burn off layers of scent before they are even reached- not to mention heating the container to a higher temperature, which can be a safety hazard.

Having a flame that is super tall or “dancing” a ton is an indication of a wick in need of trimming. This leads to excess smoke and soot, which defeats part of the purpose of choosing a candle specifically created for a clean burn.

Candle tunneling

Tunneling in B&C candles is most likely caused by not allowing the candle to burn enough during each burn session. Please allow the wax to reach almost the edges of the container before extinguishing.

Tunneling can also be caused by cutting the wick too short- thus drowning out the wick.

Too far tunneled already? EASY FIX! Due to the soft nature of coconut wax, it’s easily scoop able. When wax is cooled, take a spoon and scoop the surrounding edges of extra wax until you have created an EVEN surface. Make sure your wick is trimmed to 1/4 inch, light and enjoy!

  • We are a home based, family (mainly mama) run business, so please allow up to 5-7 business days to process your order prior to shipping. Most orders are shipped within 3-4 business days.

  • Flat rate shipping of $9.99. We ship via USPS. Tracking information will be sent to the email provided once your shipping label has been created.

  • Wrong address? Please email hello@braveandcourageous.com as soon as you discover the error. We will do our best to edit the address prior to shipping, though it is not guaranteed. If the wrong address is entered, the customer will be responsible for covering additional shipping costs to resend.

  • Addresses for Subscription Boxes cannot be edited. We do not have access to edit credit card information or addresses. You will need to cancel your subscription and resubscribe with the correct address.
