Christian Women Entertainment

As Christian Women, what does it mean to live like the world?

We always hear, “Be in the world, but not of the world,” but what does that really mean? If you stop and think about your life, what makes you any different from the world? Do you set boundaries for yourself, even when no one else does? Do you guard your eyes from the things of this world? Do you cover your ears at the sound of sin? What is the difference? What are you doing differently as a set apart child of God?

  • “Wow. Kellye. I feel attacked.”

  • “God loves me just the way I am.”

  • “I guess you’re just more holy than me.”

  • “I don’t think there is anything wrong with watching sin, because I’m not the one doing it. It’s all fake anyways… it’s called ‘acting'.’”

First, I am not trying to attack you. I am just a Christian who lived her life ignoring the things that the Bible said and still claiming Jesus. I have been entertained by the things that abhor God. I have lusted after things that Jesus died for.

Second, I want to encourage you! Do not quench the Holy Spirit! If you aren’t feeling convicted as you are entertained by sexual immorality, it may be time to “test yourself to see if you’re in the faith.”

Have you heard of that before? Because I was a full on adult before I ever really heard or comprehended what that verse means. 2 Corinthians 13:5 says, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith..” Why? Because the heart is deceitful? Because we can fool ourselves? Because if there isn’t any fruit… are we a true convert? All in due time for those who have been given new hearts!

One of the hardest things for Christian Women to let go of is ungodly entertainment. Here’s the tough pill to swallow- most entertainment is ungodly. What if there was nothing to entertain you, would you still be willing to follow God?

What if there was nothing left of the television or the movies that would glorify God? What if there was no music to stream? What if there were no social media apps? Would you still be willing to follow God?

Do we love our entertainment more than we love God? Jesus said, “If you love me, you’ll obey my commands.” No, this is not legalistic- this is the natural response for the true convert- a heart that desires to obey God.

What are His commands? “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.”

Did you catch that one part… with all your strength? As if it might be hard… as if you may have to lay some things down… as if you may have to press through uncomfortable times?

These are things on which we should ponder if we are to carry the name of Jesus, unashamedly. What fruit is the Holy Spirit producing in me? What am I seeing or listening to that isn’t honoring God? Am I willing to turn it off… or put on headphones if I can’t escape it… or get rid of the tv all together if need be?

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.” Philippians 4:8

So, maybe you’re saying, “Kellye, I’m just not there yet…. but I want to be.” I’ve got GOOD NEWS for you, sis! “Delight yourself in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Quite literally, when we desire to follow after God with all our heart, and we spend time in His word, He will begin to change the desires of our hearts to match His.

I could not tell you the abhorrent things I used to be entertained by, it truly disgusts me now. I am so grateful the LORD has delivered me from many sinful desires. I used to be a slave to sin, but now I am a slave to Christ.

Do you know the people who shame me the most for my pursuit of holiness? Other Christian women. It looks like I’m trying to be “holier than thou,” but it’s just Christ making me new, and He can make ANYONE new!

True Christians will never shame you for pursuing holiness… and if they do, they’ll end up repenting.

Here’s what I’m not saying: “I’m perfect and I’ve got it all together and I don’t struggle with any sin, because I’m the only true convert there ever was.”

Here’s what I am saying: “I’m a sinner saved by grace and it hurts to watch so many sisters (and brothers) living a life that looks too similar to the world, sprinkling Jesus here and there, with no real desire to pursue holiness. Not that I have achieved it, but that I would sharpen my sisters and be sharpened as we continue to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Choose today whom you will serve. Put up boundaries for things that are CLEARLY sin. Change your mind, repent. Why are you holding on so tightly to something that put Christ on the cross?
